DFSK stands for Dongfeng Sokon, a joint venture between the state-owned Dongfeng group and Sokon of Chongqing, the company that later grew into Seres. The badge first became known on microvans and small trucks, and today it mostly appears on the Glory family of budget SUVs and on electrified E-series models. In the UAE a DFSK is uncommon and usually a private import, so we treat each one as its own case and check what is actually under the bonnet.

Some Glory models are sold under the Dongfeng name in one market and the DFSK name in another, with different engines, trim and electrical equipment. The badge on the tailgate is therefore a weak guide to the battery. We go by the VIN, the engine code and the battery that is fitted now, and we measure the tray if the old unit has already been taken out.

The E5 has been offered as a plug-in hybrid in several export markets, pairing a petrol engine with an electric motor and a charging port. Its hybrid system is switched on by a small 12V battery, and when that one is flat the dashboard stays dark even with the traction battery charged. We deal with the 12V side only; the high-voltage system belongs to a trained hybrid workshop.
Cars built to a price often leave the factory with a basic flooded battery chosen on cost. In UAE heat that type can fade within two summers, especially on a car parked outdoors all day.
