Landwind belongs to the Jiangling group of Nanchang, the parent of JMC, and it was one of the first Chinese car brands to try selling in Europe, in the mid-2000s. Its early X6 was a body-on-frame SUV derived from an Isuzu design, while later models such as the X5 and X7 are car-based crossovers with far more electronics. Landwinds are uncommon in the UAE, and the ones we meet are usually older imports kept as second cars.

An early X6 is a truck-based SUV with a simple electrical system, rugged but now well into old age. An X5 or X7 is a modern crossover with touchscreen infotainment and more standby draw. The advice differs: on the old car we check cables, earth points and the alternator, and on the newer one we fit enough reserve for electronics that stay awake while parked.
