Choosing the battery for a SM3

We start with the build year and engine, then read the fitted battery label. The technician checks battery technology, amp-hour rating, case dimensions, hold-down and terminal side. A battery with the right voltage but the wrong case or terminal layout is not a sound fit.

The old battery is tested before removal and the charging system is checked after fitting. If the car needs a battery-management reset or registration, the technician explains the requirement for that version before the work is closed.

Renault Samsung Motors was the Busan-based arm of Renault, and its SM saloons and QM SUVs are Korean-market cars that often reached the Gulf as used imports. Many of them have Renault-badged relatives: the QM6 is the Koleos, the SM6 the Talisman, the XM3 the Arkana. Because the Korean versions can differ in engine and equipment, we treat them as their own cars and size the battery from the one already fitted, not from the Renault twin.
