SsangYong spent decades as South Korea's specialist in body-on-frame 4x4s and pickups, and cars wearing its badge are still working across the region. Early Musso and Rexton models used Mercedes-Benz-derived diesel and petrol engines, and later the Kyron, Actyon and Korando carried the rugged theme forward. The company now trades as KGM, but most SsangYong-badged vehicles here are older diesels and pickups whose batteries work hard in heat, sand and towing.

A cold diesel needs more current to start than a petrol engine of similar size, and SsangYong's Rexton, Kyron and Musso diesels are no exception. Using a battery with lower cold-cranking amps than the original leads to slow starts and early failure. Check the figure on the old battery's label and keep to it or above.
Rexton and Musso owners often use their vehicles off-road or for work, with vibration, dust and extra lights all taking a toll on the battery. A loose hold-down clamp lets the battery shake, which damages its internal plates. The technician secures the new battery properly and checks the cables for chafing.
Many SsangYongs in the UAE are well over ten years old. Corroded terminals and weak earth connections can mimic battery failure, and a tired alternator will kill a new battery quickly. We measure charging voltage after fitting as part of the job.
