Beiqi is simply the Chinese short form of Beijing Qiche, meaning Beijing Automobile, and the name turns up on badges from more than one Beijing company. The vehicles listed under it here are the older off-roaders and pickups from the Beijing Automobile Works side of the family, built between roughly 2005 and 2016: the BJ212, the Yongshi, the Zhanqi and the Qishi S12. Few reach the UAE, and those that do are usually well-used private imports, so the battery is often only part of what needs checking.

Because Beiqi badges appear on BAIC passenger cars as well as on BAW off-roaders, owners and even parts sellers sometimes mix the two up. The model name and the engine matter more than the badge when matching a battery. If the paperwork is in Chinese, the model written on the tailgate and the year on the registration card are usually enough for us to start.

Most of these vehicles are now well over ten years old, and in Gulf heat the battery clamps, earth strap and fuse box connections corrode and loosen long before the body shows its age. A new battery on a green, crusted terminal will still crank weakly. We clean the posts, check that the clamps grip and inspect the main earth point before calling the job done.
These models largely predate the idle-stop systems that call for AGM or EFB batteries, so unless yours has one, a conventional battery of the correct size and cold-cranking rating normally suits it. Where an earlier owner has added an alarm, a winch or extra lighting, we allow for that load and check whether anything draws current with the ignition off.
