The Cayenne, Macan and Panamera are daily cars with big AGM batteries, around 105Ah, 80Ah and 95Ah respectively on common versions. The 911 and 718 keep their batteries in the front luggage compartment, and the Taycan runs on electricity but still has a 12V battery that decides whether it wakes up.

Because the 911 and the Boxster and Cayman carry their engines behind the driver, the battery lives up front under the luggage compartment floor. That compartment is opened electrically, so a completely flat battery means using Porsche's emergency release procedure first. On older Cayennes the battery sits under the driver's seat. Knowing the model and year lets the technician plan the job before arriving.

Modern Porsches monitor the battery closely and adjust charging to its type, capacity and age. After a replacement, the new battery should be registered so the car stops treating it like the worn one. We fit the correct AGM battery; registration is done with Porsche diagnostic equipment at the dealer or a specialist.
Some 911 GT models and other lightweight versions were offered with a lithium starter battery, which saves weight but charges differently and is less tolerant of being run flat. Check the label before booking. We replace AGM batteries; if your car has a lithium unit, the technician will say so rather than fit the wrong type.
