Skywell HT-i battery replacement

Plug-in hybrid SUV; a flat 12V battery can stop both the petrol engine and the electric drive from starting.

The HT-i carries a petrol engine as well as a high-voltage pack, yet neither can be brought to life once the 12V supply has collapsed. The symptoms tend to look dramatic, with warnings lit across the cluster or a gear selector that will not engage, while the cause is often modest. We deal with the 12V side; the plug-in hybrid system itself belongs with a qualified workshop.

Choosing the battery for a HT-i

We start with the build year and engine, then read the fitted battery label. The technician checks battery technology, amp-hour rating, case dimensions, hold-down and terminal side. A battery with the right voltage but the wrong case or terminal layout is not a sound fit.

The old battery is tested before removal and the charging system is checked after fitting. If the car needs a battery-management reset or registration, the technician explains the requirement for that version before the work is closed.

Its car range is short: the ET5 electric SUV, the newer BE11, and the HT-i, a plug-in hybrid SUV that pairs a petrol engine with electric drive.
