UAZ is the Ulyanovsk factory behind Russia's famously tough off-roaders: the Hunter, descended from the military 469, the Patriot SUV and pickup, and the rounded 452-series vans nicknamed Bukhanka, meaning loaf of bread, sold under codes such as 2206, 3741 and 3909. They are rare in the UAE and usually belong to enthusiasts or specialist operators. Their simple mechanics make the battery easy to reach, but Russian-market batteries do not always match Gulf stock.

Batteries made for the Russian market often place the positive and negative terminals the opposite way round to many European and Asian batteries, and cable lengths in UAZ vehicles are set for that layout. Fitting a reversed battery can leave cables stretched or touching the wrong post. Tell us which way round your terminals sit, or send a photo, before we come.

UAZ vehicles were engineered for Russian winters, where batteries face the opposite problem. In Gulf heat, the electrolyte evaporates faster and plates corrode sooner, so a battery that lasts many years at home may manage only two or three summers here. A test before the hot months is worthwhile, especially for vehicles used occasionally.
