FAW Mazda Atenza battery replacement

China name for the third-generation Mazda6; check for i-stop before choosing between EFB and a standard battery.

An older Mazda6 kept in production for China generally uses a conventional battery with no engine stop at the lights. The Atenza belongs to the Skyactiv era, and versions fitted with i-stop call for an EFB or AGM instead. The Ruiyi sits between the two. Because the names overlap, we ask for the build year and check the battery already fitted before reading anything into the badge.

Choosing the battery for a Atenza

We start with the build year and engine, then read the fitted battery label. The technician checks battery technology, amp-hour rating, case dimensions, hold-down and terminal side. A battery with the right voltage but the wrong case or terminal layout is not a sound fit.

The old battery is tested before removal and the charging system is checked after fitting. If the car needs a battery-management reset or registration, the technician explains the requirement for that version before the work is closed.

Mazda has worked with more than one Chinese partner, and the FAW side, based in Changchun, built the Mazda6 family along with cars designed for China such as the CX-4 crossover. Its catalogue confuses people because several generations were sold side by side under different names: the original Mazda6 stayed in production for years, the Ruiyi joined it, and the later model took the Japanese name Atenza. In the UAE these are uncommon imports, so our first job is working out exactly which car you have.
