In the UAE the GS3, GS4 and seven-seat GS8 SUVs are the familiar faces, alongside the GA4 and GA8 saloons and the M8 people carrier, with newer hybrid models such as the Emkoo filling out the showroom. The GS8 and M8 are bought by large families and run their air conditioning flat out from May to October. With rear blowers, big screens and powered doors or tailgates, their electrical load at idle is high. On these models it pays to fit the full specified capacity, because a smaller battery that fits the tray will struggle through its second summer.

Hybrid versions of models such as the Emkoo, GS8 and M8 use a large drive battery plus a separate 12V battery. The 12V unit powers up the car's computers and closes the connection to the hybrid system, so when it weakens the car may show warnings or refuse to go into ready mode. We test and replace the 12V battery; the hybrid pack is dealer territory.
Many GACs on UAE roads are only a few years old and on their original battery, including cars in rental and ride-hailing fleets that clock long hours. Original batteries in that kind of service often need replacing around the second or third summer. A quick voltage and load test during routine maintenance catches the weak ones before they strand a driver mid-shift.
