Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD pickups with the Duramax diesel carry two batteries to spin a large, high-compression engine. They are connected together and wear together, so when one fails the other is usually close behind. We replace both as a matched pair; mixing a new battery with an old one shortens the new battery's life.

Recent GMC trucks and SUVs with automatic engine stop-start leave the factory with a battery built to survive frequent restarts, typically an AGM.
