Jaecoo is one of the newest names on UAE roads, a Chery Group brand launched internationally around 2023 with off-road-styled SUVs aimed at urban buyers. The J7 arrived first, followed by the larger J8 and the compact J5, with plug-in hybrid versions of some models and an electric E5. Nearly every Jaecoo here is on its original factory battery, and the first wave of replacements is arriving as these cars pass their second and third summers.

Factory batteries in new cars are often sized to the car's needs with little margin, and the UAE climate tests that margin hard. Owners of early J7s are now seeing slow starts after a day in an outdoor car park or a warning message about the electrical system. Those are signs to test the battery before it lets you down at a petrol station or a mall exit barrier.

Plug-in hybrid Jaecoo models drive on a high-voltage battery, yet still rely on a 12V battery to boot the car's controllers and connect the hybrid system. When the 12V battery weakens, the car can refuse to start even with the drive battery fully charged. We test and replace that 12V battery only; the high-voltage pack remains with the dealer.
