Lifan started as a motorcycle maker in Chongqing and moved into cars in the 2000s, selling budget saloons and crossovers in Russia, the Middle East and other export markets. The company went through financial restructuring around 2020 and its car business was reorganised, so owners of older Lifans now have less dealer support than before. The cars themselves are simple and use conventional batteries, which makes a straightforward replacement easy once the size is confirmed.

Most Lifan models use small or mid-size petrol engines with conventional maintenance-free batteries and no start-stop system or battery registration. What matters is matching the case size, capacity and terminal side, because Lifan used different sizes across its saloons and crossovers. The label on the current battery, or a photo of the empty tray, is enough for the technician to bring the right one.

Many Lifans on the road now are a decade old or more. A slow start is not always the battery: loose or corroded terminals, a tired earth strap or a weak alternator can produce the same symptoms. When we replace the battery, the technician checks the terminals and charging voltage so a new battery is not blamed for an older fault.
