A sensor on the negative terminal tells the car how the battery is performing, and the charging system adapts to it. When a new battery is fitted, many VWs need it registered or its details adapted so charging matches the new unit. We fit a battery of the specified type and capacity and let you know whether that adaptation is recommended for your model.
The Touareg and Teramont carry heavy electrical loads: multi-zone climate, big screens, air suspension on some versions and, on the Touareg, a battery that is often located away from the engine bay. They generally use high-capacity AGM units. Downsizing to save money will shorten battery life and can lead to warning lights.
Golf GTI and Golf R owners often keep their cars as second vehicles, and a VW left for a couple of weeks in summer heat can struggle to start. A battery maintenance charger, or starting the car and driving it regularly, keeps AGM batteries from deep discharge that permanently reduces capacity.
Electric VWs such as the ID.4 and ID.6 still rely on a 12V battery for electronics and start-up. If it fails, the car may not wake even with a charged drive battery. We replace the 12V battery only.
