Sehol started life as the brand of JAC Volkswagen, the joint venture between JAC and Volkswagen, and was later taken back under JAC when Volkswagen reorganised the partnership. The range mixes petrol SUVs and saloons with small electric models, so two Sehols parked side by side may need completely different batteries. In the UAE it is a rare badge, usually seen as a private import, and we confirm the exact model before bringing anything.

Sehol's naming is a useful shortcut. Models beginning with E, such as the E10X, E40X and E50A, are electric, and their 12V battery exists to run the electronics and connect the drive pack. The X-series SUVs and the A5 saloon use petrol engines and a conventional starter battery that has to crank the engine on every start. The two jobs call for different batteries, which is why the model name is our first question.

The larger petrol SUVs, the X8 above all, spend the hot months idling with the air conditioning working hard, often on short school and supermarket runs that never give the alternator time to refill the battery. If yours cranks slowly on the first start of a hot afternoon, test the battery before it fails outright in a car park.
Owners who know JAC through its pickups sometimes assume a Sehol shares their battery. It rarely does. The Sehol passenger cars were developed for a different buyer, and even within one nameplate the battery can change between versions.
